Regele și regina au fost prezenți la Biserica St. Mary Magdalene, iar după slujbă au fost surprinși mergând alături de un preot. Apoi, atât regele, cât și soția sa au făcut cu mâna spre fotografii aflați la fața locului.

Luni, o zi mai târziu, Palatul Buckingham a anunțat că regele Charles al III-lea a fost „diagnosticat cu o formă de cancer” și că s-a întors la Londra, unde a început tratamentul.

De ce a dezvăluit regele că suferă de cancer

Regele s-a întors de la Sandringham la Londra luni dimineață, pentru a începe tratamentul ca pacient ambulatoriu și va rămâne acasă, în capitala Regatului Unit, în această seară, a mai anunțat Palatul Buckingham.

Palatul Buckingham a precizat că regele a ales să facă public diagnosticul său, deoarece supervizează mai multe organizații caritabile care se ocupă de cancer.

În această calitate, Majestatea Sa a vorbit adesea în public în sprijinul pacienților cu cancer, al celor dragi acestora și al minunatelor cadre medicale care ajută la îngrijirea lor.

Purtător de cuvânt al Palatului Buckingham:

Purtătorul de cuvânt a precizat că regele nu suferă de cancer de prostată, fără să ofere alte detalii, însă adăugând că monarhul „primește îngrijiri de specialitate și așteaptă cu nerăbdare să revină cât mai curând posibil la serviciul public complet“.

Regele este „pe deplin optimist cu privire la tratamentul său și așteaptă cu nerăbdare să revină la îndatoririle sale publice depline cât mai curând posibil“, a adăugat acesta.

Anunțul privind diagnosticarea cu cancer a monarhului vine la o săptămână după ce atât Kate, prințesa de Walles, cât și regele Charles au fost externați de la o clinică privată din Londra după ce au fost supuși unor proceduri individuale. Regele a fost supus unei „proceduri corective” pentru o prostată mărită, în timp ce Kate Middleton, în vârstă de 42 de ani, a suferit o intervenție chirurgicală abdominală nespecificată, pe data 17 ianuarie.
